However, it does seem to cover it all, which is important in any manual. Extremely detailed in describing multiple operations possible. At times, often hard to find the answer to specific questions, having to pour through pages of (unhelpful) information, only to find the sought after answer inadequate to task. It is large and heavy, 800+ pages. Just be aware, maybe consider other options if your needs don't require an all-emcompassing encyclopedic work.
The Missing Manual series are the definitive texts for learning any piece of software. Clocking in at around 900 pages, David Pogue's Missing Manual series releases yet another gem, this one focused on Office 2008 for the Macintosh. If you are a Macintosh user that wants to learn how to get around Office better or a newbie that wants to know all the basics of one of Microsofts flagship application suites (some would say THE Microsoft application suite) you have no need for any other book. Written in a style that is accessible by nearly anyone, the MM line has been a bestseller for many years and will continue to be. If you buy Mac Office buy this book as well to get the most out of Excel, Word, Powerpoint, the whole shebang.***** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I read it from front to back and it took a toll on me. The writing is not too shabby and sometimes it is even entertaining. Serious Learning for the Serious Minded is the best I can put it.
Office 2008 for Macintosh: The Missing Manual is a large book and yes, information is abundant about the subject that it teaches. Limitations or not, it was definitely a good purchase that nows stares me daily in the face and asks without speaking: when are you going to pick me up for a long drive. Like any thing worth studying I will have to read it in its entirety at least one more time but after the first one I am taking a break (never much of a good student).
You buy one of these manuals and you have a serious undertaking, perhaps more so for me for it always took me at least a few tries to master anything of importance. I have another book of the series, the one about Leopard OS X The Missing Manual, and that one is also a hands full, but it taught me quite a bit and needs to be re-read as soon as possible if I hope to retain half of what I learned. The same thing with this one.
4 Stars, filled with information and knowledge. Long Live Knowledge (however hard to attain).
This book is another of the fine Missing Manual series. But, it is monstorous in size as it conveys the convolutedMS Office. Sad to see a 4 letter extension feature for documents that makes computing more difficult.
Now open on my desk. Needed the information as I opened the package.B. J. Comngore, Seguin, Texas
